Singer assaulted in Ahmedabad over old song rights dispute

A young singer and music composer from Ahmedabad has filed a police complaint after being brutally attacked by a group of men. The assault, which took place on a busy city road, is allegedly linked to a long-standing dispute over the rights to old songs.

Attack Near Rooftop Cafe on SG Road

The disturbing incident occurred late on Monday night near a popular rooftop cafe on SG Highway. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the victim, 32-year-old Hardik Pandya, was standing with friends around 11:45 PM when the attack unfolded.

Pandya, who creates and performs both Hindi and Gujarati music, was greeting another friend who had just arrived. As he extended his hand, two men suddenly pushed him from behind. The force of the shove caused him to fall onto the road.

Alleged Motive and Violent Assault

In his statement to the police, Hardik Pandya claimed the assault was directly connected to a conflict over intellectual property. The dispute revolves around the rights to songs created approximately one-and-a-half years ago.

The situation escalated rapidly. The accused individuals allegedly began verbally abusing Pandya. One of the attackers, wearing a metal knuckle ring, then repeatedly punched him in the face. Two more men joined the assault, and the group collectively manhandled the singer.

Fortunately, the violence was interrupted when Pandya's friends and several bystanders stepped in to help. Seeing the intervention, the assailants and their associates fled the scene.

Medical Treatment and Police Action

Following the attack, Hardik Pandya required immediate medical attention. He was taken to Sola Civil Hospital, where doctors treated his injuries. The assault caused significant damage, necessitating stitches inside his mouth.

On Wednesday, a day after the incident, Pandya visited the Vastrapur police station accompanied by his father to lodge a formal complaint. The police have registered a case based on his statement.

The FIR names two specific individuals as the primary accused. Pandya stated he could not identify two other men who participated in the attack. His friends who were present during the event have been listed as witnesses in the case.

Vastrapur police have initiated an investigation under sections related to grievous assault, criminal intimidation, and causing hurt. Authorities have confirmed that the probe is actively underway to apprehend all those involved.
