The entertainment and Gorkha community across India is in mourning following the sudden demise of singer and actor Prashant Tamang. The winner of Indian Idol Season 3 passed away on Sunday, January 11, at the age of 43 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Delhi.

Final Journey to the Hills

On Monday morning, the mortal remains of Prashant Tamang were brought to the Bagdogra airport in Siliguri, West Bengal. The somber occasion saw the presence of BJP MP Raju Bista from Darjeeling and several prominent figures from the film and music industry, who gathered to pay their final respects.

As per arrangements by the Gorkha Shaheed Sewa Samiti (GSSS), the body was scheduled to be taken for a public viewing at Chowrasta in Darjeeling, allowing his countless fans to offer their last tributes. His final rites are to be conducted in Darjeeling in the presence of his immediate family and local villagers.

Official Details and Family's Statement

Providing official updates, ADCP South-West Delhi, Abhimanyu Poswal, informed that an MLC (Medico Legal Case) was received from Mata Chanan Devi Hospital at 3:10 PM on Sunday. Prashant Tamang was declared 'brought dead' to the hospital. The police crime and FSL teams visited his residence for investigation, and the body was sent to DDU Hospital for a postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

His wife, Martha Aley, who is an Air India employee, was with him at the time. She clarified the circumstances, stating, "It was a natural death. He was in his sleep when he left us. I was right beside him at that time." The family, including their young daughter, resided in Delhi.

A Nation Mourns a Cultural Icon

Expressing profound grief, BJP MP Raju Bista highlighted Tamang's immense contribution. "It is a great loss for us. Prashant Tamang did a great job with his singing and his talent as an artist. He did a great job of uniting all the Gorkha people. We will always be indebted to him for this," Bista said, assuring support for the bereaved family.

Hailing from Darjeeling, West Bengal, Prashant Tamang rose to national fame after winning Indian Idol 3. He successfully transitioned into acting, with a notable appearance in 'Paatal Lok Season 2'. He was also expected to feature in Salman Khan's upcoming film, 'Battle of Galwan'.

The sudden passing of the beloved artist has left a void in the Indian music and entertainment landscape, with tributes pouring in from all corners of the country.
