Parikrama to Open for Rock Legends Scorpions in Major Indian Concerts
In a landmark event for Indian rock music, the iconic indie rock band Parikrama has been announced as the opening act for the legendary German heavy metal band Scorpions during their upcoming India tour. The concerts are scheduled for Delhi on April 24 and Mumbai on April 30, marking a significant moment for both bands and their fans.
A Full Circle Moment for Parikrama
Subir Malik, founder and manager of Parikrama, expressed profound honor and excitement about this opportunity. He emphasized that Scorpions have been one of the band's biggest influences since their formation. "They are one of our biggest influences," Malik stated. "Ask anyone who grew up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s – most of them listened to their songs. So when we open for legends like Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, or Scorpions, it feels like a full circle for us."
Malik further highlighted the inspirational role Scorpions played in Parikrama's journey. "If these legends hadn't been there, Parikrama wouldn't have existed. We grew up listening to Scorpions and tried playing all their songs, even when we didn't know how to play our guitars. From listening to those old cassettes to now opening for them, it is a really big honour."
Special Set and New Original Songs
In preparation for these high-profile shows, Parikrama is crafting a special set that will include debut performances of brand-new original material. Malik revealed, "We will be debuting a couple of our brand-new originals that have not yet been recorded." This move adds an element of exclusivity and anticipation for fans attending the concerts, offering a glimpse into the band's evolving musical direction.
Legacy and Inspiration
The collaboration between Scorpions and Parikrama is notable for its shared musical heritage. Scorpions, formed in 1965 by Rudolf Schenker, boast a legacy spanning over 60 years, while Parikrama celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Malik pointed out the similarities between the two bands, saying, "There are similarities in the kind of music, the era, and the undying love for rock 'n' roll. These legends have been around for almost twice as long as our time as a band and are still going strong – great inspiration for us as well."
He added that this experience represents just the beginning for Parikrama, signaling ongoing growth and ambition in the rock music scene. The concerts are expected to draw large crowds of rock enthusiasts, celebrating the enduring appeal of both international and homegrown rock acts.
