The cultural heart of Madhya Pradesh is resonating with classical melodies as the historic Tansen Samaroh commenced its 101st edition on Monday. The five-day festival, a grand tribute to the legendary music maestro Tansen, was inaugurated virtually by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
A Stellar Line-Up of Maestros
Organised by the Madhya Pradesh culture department, the festival promises an auditory feast with performances by some of the most celebrated names in Indian classical music. The event, held near the revered Tansen's Samadhi Sthal in Hazira, Gwalior, will run from December 15 to December 19.
Eminent artists set to grace the stage include sarod virtuoso Amjad Ali Khan, vocalists Kalapini Komkali and Sanjeev Abhyankar, and instrumentalists like Milind Raikar and Chetan Joshi. The duo Ritesh & Rajnish Mishra will also present their artistry, drawing music lovers from across the nation and beyond.
Architectural Homage and Prestigious Awards
Adding a unique visual and spiritual dimension to the classical music festival, the main stage has been artistically modelled on Gwalior's famous Chaturbhuj temple. This design serves as a profound homage to the region's rich architectural heritage.
A significant highlight of the Samaroh will be the conferral of national awards. The festival will witness the presentation of the national Tansen award for 2024 and 2025, alongside the national Raja Mansingh Tomar award for the same periods. These awards recognise exceptional contributions to the field of Indian classical music.
Celebrating a Timeless Legacy
The Tansen Samaroh is more than just a festival; it is a living tradition that keeps the soul of Indian classical music alive. By hosting it in Gwalior, the hometown of Tansen himself, the event connects the present directly to its glorious past. This 101st edition reinforces the state's commitment to preserving and promoting its intangible cultural wealth, offering a platform where legacy and contemporary brilliance harmoniously converge.
