Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end preparing for his 14th NFL season, is engaged to billionaire pop superstar Taylor Swift. Scarlett Johansson, the legendary Hollywood actress known for the Avengers series and recently seen in Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), is married to comedian Colin Jost, co-anchor of Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update.
In the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce asked Jost: "Two guys who are also of the plus-one fraternity and have this same experience. How nice is it to be the less famous person in your relationship?" Jost replied, "Huge relief."
Scarlett Johansson Is Less Approachable Than Colin Jost
Jost explained that although his wife is more famous, he is approached more often because she is less approachable. "Because I'm on TV, I'm in their living room. People are just like, 'Hey, what's up, man? How's it going?'" Jost said.
Jost gave an example of how people don't believe Johansson's popularity. "She's actually almost like so famous that they don't believe it a lot of times, too," he said. "We've been traveling, and we've been standing at the passport check, and the person is looking at her passport, and he'll be like, 'Has anyone ever told you look like Scarlett Johansson?' Genuinely asking and not realizing, even though he's looking at her because he's like, it would be weirder if it was her. It's a really kind of awesome thing."
Jost mentioned that whenever they order food, the order is never correct because the staff is distracted by Johansson. "Because if we go buy a sandwich or something, she'll order, and the person will recognize her, and then doesn't write down anything, nothing about the sandwich. You're completely distracted. All the ingredients are wrong. We'll open the sandwich, and nothing is. It's really funny. It's like bread and just like a pickle," Jost said.
Jost said he can "commiserate" with Kelce over the experiences of being less famous. When Kelce prompted, "I'm on the team," Jost replied, "It's so hard," to which Kelce said, "I'm here for it." Commiserate means sympathize.
Jost later explained that Johansson's popularity affected him more during his stand-up comedy days. If he had jokes about dating or marriage and said something like, 'She's nagging me about this,' everyone would react negatively.
How Does Travis Kelce Feel About Being Less Famous Than Taylor Swift?
The 36-year-old NFL tight end fully embraces the 'plus one fraternity.' In a 2025 GQ cover story interview, Kelce revealed that when he is with Swift, they feel like "regular people." When the cameras are off, he feels like "we're just two people that are in love."
Kelce said he enjoys being the plus one because he is a fan of music and art, and he gets to experience Swift being the plus one for him on the football field. He revealed that he made Swift a football fan. "She is the most engulfed fan now. She knows what the injury reports look like. She understands what special situations are, third and short -- all these things because she just naturally loves to hear about my job," Kelce said.
Kelce marvels at Swift's impact on fans. "People gravitate towards how she performs and how she makes it feel like the entire stadium is in this little room with her. She is so good at mesmerizing everybody and making everybody feel like it's an intimate situation. I think that alone -- there is so much calm and coolness. She is beautiful. She's up there making everyone feel at ease," he said.
