Chennai: Health and Family Welfare Minister K G Arunraj on Monday called for the formation of a global association of Tamil doctors, drawing inspiration from the World Tamil Sangam. He stated that he would seek Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's approval to organize an international meet for doctors from Tamil Nadu who are practicing around the world.
Address at Madras Medical College
The minister was speaking at Madras Medical College's (MMC) 190th Graduate Reception Day. As an alumnus of the 1997 batch, Arunraj announced that MMC faculty members would be sent abroad to learn new techniques as part of a proposed exchange program. "Doctors from abroad can also come here and learn about tropical diseases," he added.
Emphasis on Medical Ethics
Acknowledging criticism about the lack of ethics among doctors, Arunraj addressed the graduating students directly. "We accept the criticism. You need to be grounded and not compromise on ethics," he advised.
Sports and Infrastructure Development
To encourage students in sports, the minister announced the construction of a new indoor stadium for MMC. He called for the formation of university teams and encouraged students to participate in basketball and cricket.
Launch of Alumni Platform
Arunraj also inaugurated MMC's first alumni website and mobile application, enrolling himself as a member on the spot. He urged alumni worldwide to join the platform to strengthen the network.
