In a deeply disturbing incident, the Saroli police in Surat have filed a case of rape against a 21-year-old man, Mojabbir Shaikh, for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl. Shaikh, a native of Bihar, was employed at a textile unit located in the Saroli area of the city.
The Incident
The horrifying event unfolded on Thursday afternoon when the victim's mother stepped out for some work, leaving the child unattended for a brief period. Taking advantage of the situation, Shaikh abducted the girl and took her to a bathroom situated on the terrace of the building. There, he began to sexually assault the minor.
Intervention and Arrest
Before Shaikh could commit a more heinous crime, the victim's mother arrived at the terrace in search of her daughter. Upon witnessing the assault, she raised an alarm, prompting locals to gather at the scene. The enraged residents caught hold of Shaikh and subjected him to a beating. Soon after, the Saroli police were informed and arrived at the location to take control of the situation.
The police immediately registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Shaikh under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape, along with charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused has been taken into custody and further investigations are underway.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the urgent need for stringent measures to ensure the safety of children. The police have assured that the legal process will be expedited to deliver justice to the victim and her family.
