Sara Ali Khan has opened up about the mental toll of social media comments and trolling, admitting that criticism from audiences does affect her. In a candid interview, the actor revealed that while she works for her fans, she has learned to balance public response with her own effort and faith.
Sara Ali Khan on Social Media Trolling
In an interview with IANS, Sara was asked whether social media comments impact her mental health. She responded directly, stating that criticism does affect her. "I'll be lying if I say I don't get affected. I do get affected because ultimately, I do what I do for my audiences, and if I disappoint them, I don't feel good," she said. However, she added that over time, she has learned to also work for herself, a realization she said came late in her career.
The 'Atrangi Re' actor emphasized that audience reaction still matters to her, and her focus has always been on the people who watch her films. But with experience, she has also discovered the value of enjoying the work itself.
Balancing Audience Expectations and Self-Belief
Sara explained her evolving perspective: "I think for very long the initial focus was, and it'll always be, I said 'Janata Janata' and I meant that. The focus will always be the audience. But if you truly start enjoying your work, you enjoy the process, and you tell yourself, not in a lie but in a genuine way, that I have done my best. That absolves you of any sort of mental guilt and self-flagellation for no reason." She added that this mindset gets easier when you put in your best effort and then leave the rest to God.
Sara further noted, "That gets easier if you put in your best, and then that's it."
Upcoming Project: 'Pati Patni Aur Woh Do'
On the work front, Sara will next appear in the romantic comedy 'Pati Patni Aur Woh Do,' which also stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, and Wamiqa Gabbi in key roles. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film is scheduled to release in theaters on May 15.
