A 22-year-old volleyball player from Rajasthan was allegedly beaten to death in Faridabad, Haryana, over a love affair. The incident took place on Tuesday night in the Dabua colony area of Faridabad.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan. He was a promising volleyball player and had recently started coaching children in the sport.
Incident Details
According to the police, Ravi Kumar was in a relationship with a local girl. The girl's family opposed the relationship. On Tuesday night, the girl's brother and his associates allegedly called Ravi to a spot in Dabua colony and beat him with sticks and iron rods. Ravi succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Passersby informed the police, who reached the scene and sent the body for postmortem. The police have registered a case under sections of murder and arrested the girl's brother and two others involved in the crime.
Police Statement
Faridabad Police said, "The accused have been taken into custody. Further investigation is ongoing to find out if anyone else was involved. We are collecting evidence and recording statements of witnesses."
Family's Grief
The victim's family has alleged that the murder was pre-planned. Ravi's father said, "My son was a talented athlete. He had a bright future. The girl's family killed him because they did not approve of their relationship. We demand strict punishment for the accused."
The family has also appealed to the Rajasthan government for help in ensuring justice for their son.
