According to current royal speculation, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are preparing to bring their family to the United Kingdom for the first time in four years. Prince Archie, aged 7, and Princess Lilibet, aged 5, are expected to accompany their parents to Prince Harry's home country in July for a significant family visit.
Invictus Games Countdown
The visit is planned to coincide with the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, an adaptive sporting competition for service personnel and veterans that Prince Harry founded in 2014. This marks a notable moment for the family, as the couple stepped back from their royal roles in the UK in 2020 and relocated to California, where Lilibet was born in 2021.
Previous UK Visit with Children
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last traveled to the UK with their children in June 2022 for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. While Archie and Lilibet did not attend any official Jubilee events, the couple participated in Trooping the Colour and a thanksgiving service at St. Paul's Cathedral. During that trip, they celebrated Lilibet's first birthday with a casual, intimate backyard picnic at their former home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
Meghan's Absence Since 2022
While Prince Harry returned to the UK solo on several occasions in recent years, Meghan had not been back since September 2022. The couple was visiting England for charity events when Queen Elizabeth died, and they extended their stay to attend her funeral and related events.
Security Concerns
Prince Harry has long emphasized that he does not feel safe bringing his family to the UK after they lost state-funded security upon stepping back from royal duties. He has sought to have his police protection restored. In a statement to the High Court in London, he explained the importance of security for his children's sense of belonging: "The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live now in the United States. That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on UK soil." He added, "I can't put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences, I'm reluctant to put myself in harm's way too."
Desire for Reconciliation with King Charles
The security issue has remained a point of contention in the ongoing rift between Prince Harry and his family. Despite challenges, Harry expressed a desire to move forward: "I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile." He appeared to refer to King Charles's cancer diagnosis, revealed in 2024. The father and son last reunited on September 10, 2025, at Clarence House in London for a private 55-minute conversation, their first in-person meeting in 19 months. That meeting occurred while Harry was in the UK for the Wellchild Awards and Invictus Games events.
With the planned July visit approaching, it remains to be seen whether the trip will offer further opportunities for family reconciliation while the Duke and Duchess focus on supporting the Invictus Games milestone.
