Mahaakshay Chakraborty has finally achieved a major box-office success with Haunted Echoes of the Past, a horror film directed by Vikram Bhatt. In a candid interview with Tribune, the actor opened up about his journey, the challenges of being Mithun Chakraborty's son, and the enduring appeal of horror cinema.
First Hit After Years of Struggle
Reflecting on the success, Mahaakshay said, 'I'm so grateful that Haunted Echoes of the Past has seen the light of day and people are liking the film. People are loving the film, loving the songs, loving the connection, loving the performance. My heart is content.' He credited destiny and the audience's acceptance as the biggest blessing.
Being Mithun Chakraborty's Son: Advantage or Disadvantage?
When asked about the impact of his famous surname, Mahaakshay stated, 'It's everybody's own destiny and fate. I chose to be an actor. I chose the pros and cons that come with being an actor. Being Dad's son is neither good nor bad. It is what it is.' He emphasized that the film industry is a money-making business, and success depends on delivering hits. 'I don't take things personally. Every hit or flop makes me a better human being.'
Working with Vikram Bhatt
Mahaakshay praised Bhatt extensively, calling him 'not just an actor's director, but the director of your soul.' He noted, 'Vikram sir is so learned. He's the maestro of horror, plus he's such a great human being. I always wanted to be under his guidance.' The actor revealed that Bhatt's direction helped him deliver better performances than he imagined.
Why Horror Remains Popular
Discussing the genre's appeal, Mahaakshay explained, 'Horror will never grow out of style. It's an adrenaline rush, like a roller coaster. You experience fear without real danger.' He noted that Indian horror, like Haunted Echoes of the Past, blends songs, emotions, and scares, while films like Obsession also succeed. 'Today, the audience is open to experiments. If you make a good film, people will flock to theaters.'
Upcoming Projects and Family News
Mahaakshay revealed he is in talks for web shows, films beyond horror, and an action thriller. He expressed interest in negative roles to challenge himself. On a personal note, he confirmed his sister's engagement but declined to share details, saying the family is very low-key.
