A tragic incident occurred in Madurai late Tuesday night, where a 25-year-old woman killed her five-year-old daughter and then died by suicide following a quarrel with her mother. The deceased has been identified as Muthu, a resident of Aruldosspuram. She was married to Sundarapandi, and the couple had two children: Thulasi, aged 5, and a four-year-old boy.
Incident Details
According to police reports, Muthu had gone to her mother Sumathi’s house in Jeeva Street, Bethaniyapuram, during the holiday period. On Tuesday evening, a verbal altercation erupted between Muthu and her mother. Sumathi reportedly scolded Muthu for being idle and not helping with household chores. Embittered by the reprimand, Muthu allegedly strangled her daughter Thulasi to death and then took her own life by hanging herself with a nylon rope.
Police Investigation
Upon receiving the information, Karimedu police rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies. They were sent to Government Rajaji Hospital for autopsy. Based on a complaint lodged by Sumathi, the police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are conducting further investigations.
