In a major real estate move, cricketer Virat Kohli and actor Anushka Sharma have acquired a large land parcel in Alibaug. The deal involves over five acres of land in Zirad village, Raigad district. The couple paid a total of Rs 37.86 crore for this property.

Details of the Transaction

According to data from real estate analytics firm CRE Matrix, the transaction was officially registered on January 13. The documents show that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma paid a stamp duty of Rs 2.27 crore for this purchase. The seller is Sonali Amit Rajput, who serves as a director of Samira Land Estates.

This is not the first property investment by the couple in this area. Back in 2022, they bought an eight-acre farmhouse in the same Zirad village of Alibaug. That earlier purchase cost them Rs 19 crore.

Why Alibaug Attracts Celebrities

The coastal stretch of Alibaug has become extremely popular among wealthy buyers and celebrities. It offers a perfect blend of rural tranquility and improved connectivity to Mumbai. Many people see it as an escape from the crowded, concrete environment of the city.

Over the past few years, numerous movie stars and high-profile individuals have bought properties here. The trend accelerated during the pandemic when many families from Mumbai moved to their weekend homes in Alibaug.

Other Celebrity Purchases in Alibaug

Several other celebrities have also invested heavily in Alibaug's property market:

  • In 2023, actor Suhana Khan, daughter of Shah Rukh Khan, bought three plots totaling 2.79 acres for Rs 25.5 crore.
  • Shah Rukh Khan himself owns property in Alibaug, including a large coconut plantation.
  • Actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh purchased a house in Mapgaon village for Rs 22 crore in 2021.
  • Last year, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan bought three plots in Alibaug for Rs 6.59 crore.

High-Value Deals During the Pandemic

Even during the challenging times of the pandemic, Alibaug witnessed several big-ticket property transactions:

  • In 2021, a six-acre beachfront home in Awas village sold for Rs 80 crore. The buyer was Shrikantadevi Damani, wife of Radhakishan Damani.
  • Radhakishan Damani is a well-known stock market investor and the founder of DMart supermarket chain.
  • In 2020, Radhakishan Damani and his brother Gopikishan purchased a bungalow in south Mumbai for a record Rs 1,001 crore.
  • Earlier, in 2015, Radhakishan Damani bought the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa for Rs 135 crore.

The consistent flow of high-profile investments shows that Alibaug remains a preferred destination for luxury real estate. Its combination of natural beauty, privacy, and accessibility continues to attract India's elite.
