Karan Johar Talks Met Gala Fashion
In the video, Johar began with his characteristic wit, saying, "Hi guys, so join me as I lose my MET Virginity." He then explained why the Met Gala holds profound meaning for him as a fashion enthusiast. "Met Gala is much more than just, as I said, a red carpet or an event. It's something that I believe is very crucial and important to the world of fashion," Johar stated.
He added that attending the gala had been a long-cherished dream. "So, obviously, being on the red carpet for me has been like on my bucket list," he said. Johar also expressed a strong connection to this year's theme. "And I love the fact that I'm here this year with this theme, a theme that I so, so resonate with in so many ways," he remarked.
Karan Johar Invokes Miranda Priestly
Johar referenced the iconic character Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada while discussing his Met Gala look. "I think Miranda Priestly in her own words would find my outfit," he said, before adding, "I don't know about her nod of approval, but I think she would definitely find it groundbreaking." He clarified the joke by noting, "And not in the way she describes florals in spring."
The filmmaker acknowledged that wearing the outfit throughout the evening would be a challenge. "That itself is going to be a challenge and a battle," he admitted. He also shared his plan for after walking the carpet: "So, once I'm inside, then I just want to eventually, after the glory of this beautiful garment is shown on the carpet, I would like to hang it in the troubleshooting room is what I believe it's called." Johar added that the inside look was more comfortable. "Once I'm done with it, the inside is much more comfortable," he said.
After the red carpet, Johar said he planned to socialize, meet people, have a drink, and enjoy the evening.
