On International Yoga Day, an old post by Kangana Ranaut has resurfaced online, highlighting the transformative role yoga played in her sister Rangoli Chandel's recovery from a life-altering acid attack. In the heartfelt throwback note, the actress shared how yoga became a source of hope for her family during one of their most difficult periods, helping Rangoli regain confidence and reconnect with the world after years of physical and emotional challenges.
Rangoli Chandel's Long Battle After the Attack
Rangoli Chandel was just 21 years old when she became the victim of an acid attack. The incident left her with severe injuries, including third-degree burns, half of her face burnt, loss of vision in one eye, a melted ear, and severe damage to one breast. She underwent 53 surgeries over two to three years. However, Kangana noted that her biggest concern was Rangoli's mental health, as she had stopped speaking and would stare blankly at everything, according to the actress's post.
Kangana revealed that while doctors focused on Rangoli's physical recovery, her emotional well-being became an equally significant concern for the family. The attack affected every aspect of Rangoli's life. She was engaged to an Air Force officer, but after seeing her face post-attack, he left and never returned. Despite this, Rangoli did not shed a tear or utter a word. Doctors diagnosed her as being in a state of shock, but therapies and psychiatric medication did not help.
How Yoga Became a Turning Point
Kangana, who was only 19 years old at the time, was searching for ways to help her sister heal. She practiced yoga with her teacher Surya Narayan and decided to take Rangoli along to her classes. Over time, she noticed dramatic positive changes in her sister's behavior and outlook. According to Kangana, Rangoli not only started to respond to pain and jokes but also regained lost vision in one eye. The actress emphasized, "Yoga is the answer to every question (misery) you will ever have."
International Yoga Day and Its Significance
International Yoga Day is observed annually on June 21, following a proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. The initiative received support from the United Nations and has grown into a global movement promoting holistic wellness. This year's celebrations saw participation from several celebrities, including Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, and Bhagyashree, who encouraged people to adopt yoga as part of their daily lives.
