Veteran Himachal litterateur Krishan Kumar Nutan passed away at the age of 85 in Mandi district on Tuesday. He breathed his last at his residence in Mandi town after a prolonged illness. Nutan is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
Literary Journey and Contributions
Krishan Kumar Nutan was a prolific writer and poet who made significant contributions to Himachali literature. He authored over 30 books, including poetry collections, short stories, novels, and plays. His works often reflected the culture, traditions, and social issues of the Himachal region.
Nutan was born in 1938 in Mandi district. He started writing at a young age and published his first poem at the age of 16. Over the decades, he became a prominent figure in the literary circles of Himachal Pradesh.
Awards and Recognition
For his literary contributions, Nutan was honored with the Himachal Pradesh Sahitya Akademi Award in 1995. He also received the Bhasha Samman from the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in 2009. In addition, he was conferred with the Shikhar Samman by the Himachal Pradesh government.
His works have been widely anthologized and translated into several Indian languages. Nutan also served as a member of the Himachal Pradesh Sahitya Akademi and contributed to the promotion of regional literature.
Condolences Pour In
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed grief over Nutan's demise, calling him a "great literary figure" whose works will continue to inspire generations. Several other dignitaries, including writers and poets, also paid tribute to the departed soul.
His last rites were performed at the local cremation ground in Mandi with full state honors. The literary community in Himachal Pradesh mourns the loss of a stalwart who enriched the cultural landscape of the state.
Nutan's demise marks the end of an era in Himachali literature. His legacy, however, lives on through his extensive body of work that continues to be studied and admired.
