The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the producers of the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legal following a plea by actor Salman Khan seeking a stay on its release. Khan alleges that the film is based on the blackbuck poaching case associated with him and violates a previous court order protecting his personality rights, as reported by PTI.
Court Proceedings
A vacation bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna directed notices to Amit Jani, Akshay Pandey, and other respondents on the actor's application. The matter is scheduled for hearing on June 19. During the proceedings, the court was informed that although the film's release date has not been announced, its trailer was released earlier on Friday.
Arguments by Khan's Counsel
Representing Salman Khan, his counsel argued that the lead character in the film bears a strong resemblance to the actor in both appearance and attire. In the application, Khan stated that the film's poster shows a "blatant and obvious reference" to him. "The character depicted has an uncanny resemblance to the plaintiff and is clearly seen wearing a bracelet, which is immediately and promptly identifiable with the plaintiff and no one else," the application read.
Personality Rights Claim
The actor has sought court intervention, claiming that the portrayal infringes upon his protected personality rights. This case highlights the ongoing legal battles celebrities face to safeguard their image and identity from unauthorized commercial use.
