Gurgaon: What began as an election-season promise in Rewari has now taken on a formal shape. Days after vowing that no bachelor would remain single if the BJP candidate won the local body poll, party MLA Bimla Chaudhary returned to the town on Friday and asked unmarried men to submit their resumes so she could help find them a match.
Promise Made During Campaign
Chaudhary was addressing a gratitude rally after BJP candidate Vinita Pipal's victory in the municipal council election. Repeating the line that had first turned heads during campaigning, the Pataudi MLA told the gathering she intended to keep her word. "Those who are still unmarried can give me their details. I will ensure their marriage is arranged," she added.
Sharing the stage with her, Health Minister Arti Rao leaned into the moment. If anyone knew unmarried men, she told the crowd, their details should be passed on to Chaudhary so "the promise can be fulfilled".
Background of the Remark
The remark traces back to Chaudhary's campaign speech on May 7, when she urged voters to back the BJP and declared from the stage that "no unmarried man will remain single in Rewari". Framing it as a personal commitment, she had said: "Today, I make another promise from this stage. The responsibility of getting those youths who are still bachelors married is also mine. You just give us your blessings."
At that rally too, Rao had joked that while development promises were expected, Chaudhary now seemed to have opened a "marriage bureau" in Rewari. Later, Chaudhary had defended the remark in the same playful tone, saying daughters from Palwal had long been married into Rewari, Rampura and Bijlighar. "Now, no one will remain a bachelor. First vote, then get yourself married," she had said.
Election Context and Sex Ratio Concerns
Voting for the municipal polls was held on May 10, and counting took place on May 13. The MLA's remark has drawn wider attention because of its backdrop. Rewari recorded Haryana's lowest sex ratio at birth in 2025 — 882 girls per 1,000 boys, against the state average of 925. The government also runs a scheme, launched in July 2023, under which unmarried men aged 45-60 receive a monthly pension of Rs 2,750, subject to income criteria.
Chaudhary's initiative, while lighthearted in tone, highlights the demographic imbalance in the region. By asking men to submit resumes, she aims to facilitate marriages and address the issue of unmarried men in a district with a skewed sex ratio.
