Rodney Harrison played as a safety for the New England Patriots from 2003 to 2008, while Mike Vrabel served as a linebacker for the team from 2001 to 2008. Vrabel is three years younger than Harrison. When the current controversy involving Dianna Russini and Vrabel came up for discussion, Harrison gave a fitting response.
Rodney Harrison Supports Mike Vrabel
Support is pouring in from across the NFL fraternity for Mike Vrabel, and Rodney Harrison, an NBC Sports analyst, has added his voice to the chorus. 'The one saving grace, no matter what goes on in your life, has always been an NFL locker room,' Harrison told MassLive's Karen Guregian. 'Those players are going through some of the same things Mike Vrabel is going through with some of the temptations, some of the things that are out there, things they struggle with. So, they have a great deal of empathy. So, I think they'll understand, and they'll forgive Mike. I think it'll bring the locker room even closer together.'
Harrison Hints at Potential Skeptics
Harrison acknowledged that there might be a few individuals who have trouble with Vrabel. 'You still might have a few holes. A few who might be skeptical, "Well, he said this, he said that," but the majority in that locker room, they love Mike Vrabel and they respect him,' Harrison said. 'They know he's a human being, he's a good person, and he made a mistake. And they're going to forgive him.'
Impact on Vrabel
When asked how Vrabel has been affected, Harrison replied, 'He's been humbled. But he's hungry. He's even hungrier now. He knows he has a lot of stuff to prove to those guys in the locker room. And that's what he's going to do.'
Vince Wilfork Hopes for the Best
Vince Wilfork, a former teammate of Vrabel who later played under him when Vrabel was the Houston Texans' defensive coordinator, also shared his thoughts. Wilfork told MassLive's Karen Guregian, 'I love Mike. Mike is a great guy, a great coach. He's been a coach and teammate of mine. I know how he is. I know he told them, "I effed up." He's going to face it like a man and hope for the best. He's going to be real about it.'
Devin McCourty Urges Patience Until 2026
Another NBC Sports analyst, Devin McCourty, expressed support and concern for Vrabel. McCourty believes the New England Patriots and Vrabel just need to get through the offseason without any shocking revelations. 'For him, you just gotta make it to the season. As crazy as that sounds, it's the truth,' McCourty told MassLive's Karen Guregian. 'If you can get to the point of going out and winning football games, people forget about things. If you win, it makes things easier.'
McCourty added that the waiting period is out of their control. 'The hard thing for them is the next kind of … waiting until the next thing happens in the story. It's a little bit out of their control. We haven't heard from Dianna Russini.'
Sports radio host and longtime friend of Russini, Jon 'Stugotz' Weiner, has revealed that Russini will share her side of the story on her own timeline. If she does so before the 2026 season, it may further affect Vrabel, according to McCourty's assessment.
