Charlize Theron Scales Times Square Billboard to Promote New Film Apex
Charlize Theron Scales Times Square Billboard for Apex Promo

Most actors promote their films with interviews, red carpets, and maybe a mildly chaotic press tour. Charlize Theron looked at all that and chose altitude. Because apparently, when you learn rock climbing for a role, the next logical step is scaling a billboard in Times Square like it is just another Tuesday errand.

From Film Prep to Real-Life Flex

Fresh off mastering rock climbing for Apex, Theron put her learnings to test in real life. On April 24, she was spotted climbing a massive Times Square billboard in full gear, while pedestrians below collectively forgot how to blink. And no, this was not some spur-of-the-moment adventurous decision. As per a statement by a popular OTT platform shared with People, Theron spent weeks training with climber Beth Rodden to prepare for the film’s intense terrain. Naturally, after that kind of prep, a regular promo must have felt underwhelming.

Theron’s Peak Performance

In the film, Theron’s character Sasha heads into the Australian wilderness. The film was shot across New South Wales, including the Blue Mountains. Reflecting on her experience with climbing, Theron had earlier told People, “I had never climbed, except for trees when I was a kid in Africa. It’s great. It’s so much fun.” Probably, that energy carried over into real life because casually climbing a billboard in Times Square is not exactly beginner behavior.
