Just days after welcoming her fourth child, rapper and global icon Cardi B found herself battling a storm of online drama instead of celebrating. A fabricated screenshot, purportedly from her ex-husband Offset's Instagram Story, went viral, sparking a nasty rumour mill about the paternity of her newborn son with current partner, NFL star Stefon Diggs.
The Fake Post That Sparked a Frenzy
The controversy began when a convincing-looking screenshot started circulating widely on social media. It appeared to show a post from Offset's account with the simple, yet explosive, message: "My kid lol." This tiny phrase was enough to send fans of celebrity and NFL news into a speculative frenzy, with many wrongly suggesting that Offset could be the father of Cardi B's latest child, overshadowing the joy of the baby's arrival.
The fake post spread like wildfire across platforms, gaining traction and credibility with every share. The speculation grew so loud that Cardi B was forced to step in and address the situation directly, cutting through the noise with a raw and emotional response.
Cardi B's Emotional Plea and Offset's Official Denial
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Cardi B shared her profound frustration and fear with her followers. She made it clear that she has reached her breaking point with the constant stream of false narratives and harassment.
She wrote, "Y’all be thinking it’s so funny and it’s not." She then revealed the darker side of the constant rumours, adding, "It’s been over a year and I’m still being harassed and threatened to the point that I feel like my life in danger. It's all fun and games until it's too late."
Cardi B did not hold back, stating that people will do anything for clout and that such fabricated posts can have dangerous real-world consequences. She ended her powerful message with a firm demand: "MF’ers do anything for attention and it could get real nasty with just one upload. LEAVE ME TF ALONE."
Soon after Cardi's public statement, Offset moved to officially debunk the fake story. A spokesperson for the rapper released a clear and concise statement, asserting that the viral Instagram Story was a complete fabrication.
The statement read, "Any statements attributed to Offset circulating on social media are completely fabricated. Cardi responded to misinformation, and the situation escalated unnecessarily." The representative also emphasized that "Offset has remained supportive of Cardi and genuinely wishes her nothing but the best."
A Pattern of False Rumours
This incident is not an isolated one for the former couple. It adds to a recent string of false rumours involving Cardi B and Offset. Earlier this same month, Offset had to publicly deny claims that he had turned down a substantial divorce settlement from the rapper.
Addressing those claims directly in an Instagram comment, he had written, "False rumors all of it. Stop running a hate campaign nun of this is true or the first s**t that was about this was true." The identity of the person who created the latest fake 'my kid' screenshot remains unknown, highlighting the ongoing challenge public figures face with online misinformation.
