Director Buchi Babu Sana has confirmed that the team will make changes to the film 'Peddi' after facing backlash over Janhvi Kapoor's portrayal. In a recent interview, Sana apologized and explained that the audience may have misread his intentions.
Director's Explanation on Janhvi Kapoor's Role
Speaking to Indian Express, Buchi Babu Sana said, 'In my opinion, a lot of people misread Janhvi Kapoor's track as unnecessary in an otherwise good story.' He emphasized the deliberate need to show Ram Charan's character as 'radical', drawing parallels with the storyline as someone from the hills. He added that he wanted to correct this characterization later in the film.
'I wanted to show the rawness and later correct it in the end, saying that this guy is this way because of his upbringing and atmosphere. For such a character, he thinks he has to marry the woman he loves,' he explained.
Sana acknowledged that some shots during filming turned out to be misleading and mentioned that those scenes have been trimmed.
Backlash Over Controversial Scenes
After the film's release, a significant portion of the audience criticized the scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor. Viewers objected to camera angles that focused on her body rather than her character. Additionally, a controversial scene where Ram Charan's character kisses her without apparent consent drew heavy criticism.
Public Apology on Social Media
Following the backlash, Buchi Babu Sana issued a public apology on social media, confirming that necessary changes will be made. He wrote, 'After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities.'
'Peddi' Box Office Collection
Despite the controversy, 'Peddi' has performed well at the box office. On Day 5, the film nearly reached the Rs 250 crore mark globally, with worldwide collections standing at Rs 248.92 crore, according to Sacnilk.
