Bhopal 'Looteri Dulhan' Gang Dupes Farmer of Rs 2.5 Lakh

A shocking case of a 'Looteri Dulhan' has emerged from the Nazirabad area of Bhopal, where a gang allegedly defrauded a farmer's family of Rs 2.5 lakh by orchestrating a marriage and then making the bride vanish within eight days of the wedding. The Nazirabad police registered a cheating case on Sunday against the woman and two middlemen involved in arranging the marriage.

How the Fraud Unfolded

The duped family, after being cheated, devised a plan to catch the accused. They contacted the woman and the middlemen, luring them with a proposal to marry the woman to another man. When the accused arrived, the police nabbed them. During interrogation, the middlemen revealed that they had paid Rs 30,000 to the woman for her role in the scam.

According to police, the complainant, Ramchandra, a farmer and resident of Nazirabad, was searching for a bride for his younger brother, Sarwan. During the search, the family came into contact with a woman living in Mandideep, who was introduced as a widow whose husband had died of cancer four years ago and who wanted to remarry.

The Negotiations and Marriage

During negotiations, two men identified as Roop Singh and Ravi allegedly told the family that they would have to pay Rs 2.5 lakh to get Sarwan married to the woman. Trusting them, the family paid the entire amount. Following the payment, the marriage was solemnised at a temple in the last week of April.

After the wedding, the woman came to her in-laws' house in Nazirabad and stayed there for about eight days before suddenly going missing. When the family contacted the middlemen and demanded their money back, they allegedly refused to return the amount.

The Trap and Arrest

After repeated efforts to trace the woman failed, the family laid a trap. They called the woman and the middlemen through a relative on the pretext of marrying the woman to another man. Acting on Ramchandra's complaint, Nazirabad police reached the spot and arrested the accused. Police have registered a case of cheating against the woman, Roop Singh, and Ravi.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the 24-year-old woman is originally from Narmadapuram district and currently resides in Mandideep. She allegedly received a cut of Rs 30,000 for marrying Sarwan.

Police Investigation

Nazirabad SHO Durjan Singh Barkade stated that the police have arrested the accused and are investigating the case further. The accused Roop Singh and Ravi work as taxi drivers and operated from the railway station area. The police are probing whether the gang has been involved in similar frauds in the past.
