BHOPAL: The family of a 33-year-old woman found dead in Bhopal earlier this week staged a protest outside Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's residence on Sunday, demanding a fresh post-mortem examination at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.
Protest and Demands
Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12. Her family has accused her husband, Samarth Singh, and his mother, a former judge, of murder. During the protest, the family demanded a second post-mortem examination, citing concerns over the initial autopsy. They also requested that legal proceedings be transferred outside Madhya Pradesh.
Police Investigation
The police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of dowry harassment. Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap, leading the SIT, stated that a case has been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to dowry death and harassment. The SIT will also investigate claims of physical assault and attempts to destroy evidence.
Twisha married Samarth Singh in December 2025 after meeting him through a dating app in 2024. Her family said she wanted to leave Bhopal and return to Noida, and she was in contact with them until around 10pm on Tuesday, shortly before her death.
Legal Proceedings
An FIR was registered belatedly on Friday against the former judge and her son. The retired judge obtained anticipatory bail from a sessions court the same evening, while her son's anticipatory bail application is scheduled for hearing on Monday. As of now, Samarth Singh is absconding, according to police records.
Twisha's father, Navnidhi Sharma, and her brother met officials from the Chief Minister's office during the protest, who assured them of fair action. The family also noted that Twisha's body had remained in the mortuary of AIIMS Bhopal for five days.
