Bengaluru Woman Accuses Astrologer of Rape and Exploitation

A 35-year-old woman from south Bengaluru has filed a complaint against an astrologer, accusing him of sexual exploitation under the guise of spirituality. The complaint was lodged with the Chennammanakere Achukattu police on April 27. The woman alleges that Mohan Kumar J raped her and exploited her trust.

According to the complainant, Mohan Kumar J is a self-styled astrologer who lured women by promising to solve personal and business problems through rituals such as poojas and diksha. He would gain the trust of families by claiming he could offer solutions to their troubles.

The complainant, who runs a beautician training centre, first received a phone call from Mohan on January 1 of the previous year. He visited her centre the next day to enroll his sister. During this visit, he advised the complainant and her husband to perform certain rituals to improve her business.

On January 30, Mohan took the woman to Pyramid Valley in Ramanagara district, where he allegedly misbehaved with her. Subsequently, on February 8, he took her to Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru and later to Nimishamba temple. While returning from the temple visit, he attempted to rape her. When she resisted, he threatened to harm her family through black magic.

Two days later, Mohan visited her residence under the pretext of giving diksha. He sent her husband and son to offer prayers to a tree for about one and a half hours. While they were away at a park, Mohan allegedly raped her. He also took her to a village for two days and continued to abuse her. The complainant stated that when she developed an infection, Mohan took her to a hospital.

Mohan also extorted money from her for performing poojas. During the period of sexual exploitation, he would threaten her, claiming he could cause her husband's death. The woman said she attempted suicide, but her family members advised her to file a complaint instead.

A senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 64 (punishment for rape), 75 (sexual harassment), and 351 (criminal intimidation). Mohan has gone incommunicado, and efforts are underway to apprehend him, the officer added.
