The 'American Idol' 20th reunion episode of the 2006 cast aired on Monday, featuring alum Kellie Pickler in a rare public appearance following the death of her husband, Kyle Jacobs. The 'Red High Heels' singer performed a duet with contestant Hannah Harper, singing Martina McBride's song 'A Broken Wing.'
Kellie Pickler's Return After Personal Tragedy
Kellie Pickler married Kyle Jacobs in 2011. In February 2023, Kyle passed away, and since then, Pickler has maintained a low profile. According to the BBC, reflecting on her husband's death, Pickler said that six months after the tragic event had been 'the darkest time' of her life. However, 'American Idol' holds a special place in her heart. She appeared in the fifth season alongside Chris Daughtry, Katharine McPhee, Mandisa, and winner Taylor Hicks.
After her performance, judge Lionel Richie shared, 'All I can say is the perfect voice blend and complement. The two of you make one dynamic performance. Incredible.' Paula Abdul praised Kellie and Hannah as a 'perfect' pair.
Other Alums and Judges at the Reunion
Kellie Pickler was not the only alum on the show. She was accompanied by Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett, Elliott Yamin, and Bucky Covington. Former judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson also graced the reunion. They were warmly welcomed by the show's current judges, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood.
