Parasakthi Box Office Day 13: Sivakarthikeyan's Film Sees Sharp 60% Decline in Week 2
Parasakthi, the Tamil political drama starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, and Sreeleela, has completed two weeks at the box office, but the results are far from encouraging. The film, which had a decent opening week, witnessed a nearly 60 per cent fall in its earnings during Week 2, raising concerns about its financial viability.
Week 2 Collections Show Steep Decline
According to data from industry tracker Sacnilk, Parasakthi collected a total of ₹36.25 crore in its first week. However, the second week told a different story, with earnings slipping drastically day by day. The collections for Week 2 were as follows:
- Day 7 (Friday): ₹5 crore
- Day 8 (Saturday): ₹4.85 crore
- Day 9 (Sunday): ₹2.65 crore
- Day 10 (Monday): ₹75 lakh
- Day 11 (Tuesday): ₹33 lakh
- Day 12 (Wednesday): ₹55 lakh
- Day 13 (Thursday): ₹43 lakh
With this, Parasakthi's net total for Week 2 was ₹14.83 crore, which is 59.09 per cent lower than the first week's collection. After 13 days, the film stands at a total India net collection of ₹51.08 crore.
Heavy Budget Burdens Performance
The film's total collection pales in comparison to its massive production cost, estimated at around ₹200 crore. This makes Parasakthi one of the most expensive films in Sivakarthikeyan's career. Burdened by this heavy budget, the movie has earned just a little over 25 per cent of its production cost in 13 days. Parasakthi needed a very strong box-office performance to turn a profit, but given the current trend, it is unlikely to see significant improvements in its third week either.
Pre-release Deals Provide Some Relief
Despite the disappointing box office numbers, Parasakthi had secured lucrative pre-release deals that helped mitigate some of the financial risks. The film reportedly signed a pre-release deal with Zee5, selling its OTT streaming rights for ₹52 crore. This is believed to be one of Sivakarthikeyan's biggest OTT deals so far, recovering about 26 per cent of the total budget.
In comparison, Sivakarthikeyan's most successful film, Amaran, was sold to Netflix for ₹60 crore. Apart from the OTT deal, Parasakthi's satellite rights were reportedly sold to Kalaignar TV for ₹30 crore, and Saregama Music acquired the audio rights for ₹13 crore. Altogether, these deals brought in nearly ₹95 crore even before the film's release, helping the producers recover almost half of the budget in advance.
Future Prospects Remain Uncertain
With a steep decline in Week 2 collections and a massive budget to recover, Parasakthi's future at the box office looks challenging. The film's performance highlights the risks associated with high-budget productions in the Tamil film industry. While pre-release deals have provided some cushion, the lackluster box office numbers could impact the overall profitability of the project.
As Parasakthi enters its third week, industry analysts will be closely watching whether the film can stabilize its collections or if the downward trend continues. For now, the movie serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of balancing budget with audience appeal in today's competitive cinematic landscape.
