The much-anticipated comedy sequel 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2', starring popular comedian-actor Kapil Sharma, has hit a major roadblock at the domestic box office. The film, directed by Anukalp Goswami, experienced a steep decline in its collections on its first Monday, signaling a worrying trend for its theatrical run.
According to early estimates reported by industry tracker Sacnilk, the film managed to earn only around Rs 90 lakh net in India on Day 4. This marks a significant drop, pushing the film's daily earnings below the crucial Rs 1 crore mark. While a dip on weekdays is a standard pattern for most films, trade observers note that the scale of this fall is particularly concerning for a movie that has failed to build strong momentum since its opening.
KKPK 2 Box Office Collection: A Day-by-Day Breakdown
The film's journey at the ticket windows has been underwhelming from the start. It opened on Friday with a collection of Rs 1.85 crore. The numbers saw a marginal improvement on Saturday, rising to Rs 2.5 crore. Sunday turned out to be its best day so far, with the film collecting approximately Rs 2.9 crore.
This brought its opening weekend total to an estimated Rs 7.20 crore net. With Monday's Rs 90 lakh added, the film's estimated India net total now stands at Rs 8.1 crore. In terms of gross collections, the film has reportedly earned Rs 9.75 crore in India and Rs 10.35 crore worldwide.
Low Occupancy Reflects Waning Audience Interest
The poor collections were mirrored in the film's occupancy rates on Monday. The overall Hindi occupancy for the day was a mere 17.49%. The day began with a dismal 6.42% occupancy for morning shows. While numbers improved slightly through the day, they remained low—16.56% in the afternoon and 18.61% in the evening. Night shows performed relatively better, settling at 28.36%.
Despite its own struggles, 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2' still managed to outperform some other films in theatres. For instance, the third-week release 'Tere Ishk Mein' earned around Rs 55 lakh, while the new release 'Mowgli' collected approximately Rs 35 lakh on the same Monday.
Dominance of 'Dhurandhar' and 'Akhanda 2' Cripples New Releases
Trade analysts point to the overwhelming dominance of two major blockbusters as a primary reason for KKPK 2's struggle. The Hindi action thriller 'Dhurandhar', starring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, continues its phenomenal run. On its second Monday, the Aditya Dhar directorial earned an estimated Rs 29 crore, taking its India net total to a staggering Rs 379.75 crore. Its worldwide gross has crossed an impressive Rs 579.25 crore.
Simultaneously, the Telugu action film 'Akhanda 2: Thaandavam', starring Balakrishna Nandamuri, is ruling the Southern markets. It added an estimated Rs 5.4 crore net on Monday. Its total collection from the Telugu box office stands at approximately Rs 64.5 crore net, with a worldwide gross of Rs 89.35 crore.
The sustained audience pull of these two giants has severely limited the screen space and audience share available for newer, smaller releases like Kapil Sharma's comedy.
A Silver Lining: Kapil Sharma's Third Highest-Grossing Film
Amidst the muted box office performance, there is a minor milestone for the film's lead actor. Despite the low numbers, 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2' has now become Kapil Sharma's third highest-grossing film as a lead actor. It is now only a few crore rupees short of surpassing his film 'Firangi' to claim the second spot.
However, his biggest hit remains the original 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon', which collected a lifetime total of Rs 49.98 crore. The sequel, which also features Manjot Singh, Tridha Choudhury, Ayesha Khan, Parul Gulati, Hira Warina, and veteran actor Asrani, has a long way to go to match that success. The film's performance in the coming days will be crucial in determining its final fate at the box office.
