The makers of 'Kalki 2898 AD' are reportedly preparing for the next chapter in the sci-fi franchise following the blockbuster success of the first film. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the much-anticipated sequel is targeting a grand theatrical release in December 2027, as reported by Pinkvilla.
The film, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Sai Pallavi in lead roles, is expected to complete filming by April 2027 to hit the December 2027 release date. A source close to the production revealed, "Makers of Kalki 2 are planning an extensive post-production process, given the heavy visual effects and world-building required for the futuristic spectacle."
The sequel is expected to pick up directly from where the first film ended, delving deeper into mythology and emotional conflicts. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, especially after Deepika Padukone's exit from the film, rumors suggest that the battle between Kamal Haasan’s antagonist Supreme Yaskin will form the central focus of the narrative. "The sequel is a lot bigger than the first part, as the real battle in the world of Kalki begins here," the report added.
If the reported release plan remains unchanged, 'Kalki 2' will arrive during a crowded December 2027 box office window that already includes major international and Indian releases. Among the films currently slated for that month are 'Avengers: Secret Wars', 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum', and 'Tumbbad 2'. While 'Secret Wars' is expected to clash with 'The Hunt for Gollum', 'Tumbbad 2' will release early in the month, aiming for a solo window.
