Ranveer Singh's espionage blockbuster, Dhurandhar, has started to show signs of slowing down after a phenomenal and record-breaking run in cinemas across the country. On its 37th day in theatres, which was its sixth Saturday, the film managed to add an estimated ₹3.93 crore nett to its domestic kitty, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.
Steady Decline After a Historic Streak
This latest collection pushes the film's total domestic nett earnings to an impressive ₹797.68 crore. The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 26.44% for the day. The morning shows saw a relatively subdued turnout of 15.30%, while afternoon shows performed better with 37.58% occupancy. While data for evening and night shows was pending, trade circles indicate that the film's daily collections are now firmly in the single-digit territory, marking a shift from its unprecedented performance over the past month.
Dhurandhar achieved a rare cinematic milestone by securing double-digit daily collections for 28 consecutive days, a feat few Indian films have accomplished. The film's financial journey has been staggering: it opened with a massive ₹207.25 crore in its first week, followed by an even bigger ₹253.25 crore in the second week. The momentum continued with ₹172 crore in week three, ₹106.5 crore in week four, and ₹51.25 crore in week five, before the slowdown became evident in its ongoing sixth week.
About the Film and Its Massive Success
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the nearly four-hour-long spy drama is primarily set in Pakistan and intricately weaves a narrative around covert intelligence operations. The plot resonates with Indian audiences by referencing pivotal national events like the Kandahar hijack, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, giving it a strong emotional and political core. A significant part of the story unfolds in the volatile neighbourhood of Lyari in Karachi.
The film boasts a powerful ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan in key roles. Produced by B62 Studios in collaboration with Jio Studios, Dhurandhar hit the screens on 5 December.
According to its makers, the film has etched its name in history by becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of all time in a single language. Its domestic gross collection stands at approximately ₹840 crore, surpassing the Hindi version of Pushpa 2. On the global stage, Dhurandhar has crossed the monumental ₹1,240 crore mark.
The Road Ahead: Dhurandhar 2 and a Mega Clash
The franchise is far from over, with Dhurandhar 2 already slated for a grand pan-India release on 19 March next year. The sequel will release in five languages, strategically targeting the festive window of Eid, Gudi Padwa, and Ugadi.
This sets the stage for one of the most anticipated box office clashes of 2025. Dhurandhar 2, headlined once again by Ranveer Singh, is poised for a direct face-off with the Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. With both films being big-budget, high-octane action dramas, the battle for audience attention and box office supremacy is expected to be a defining moment for the Indian film industry.
