Dhurandhar Nears Rs 550 Cr, Choreographer Reveals Tamannaah Was First Choice for 'Shararat'
Dhurandhar Box Office Hits Rs 550 Cr, Tamannaah Song Secret Revealed

The espionage thriller 'Dhurandhar', directed by Aditya Dhar, is not just breaking box office records but also sparking conversations with its creative choices. Since its release on December 5, the film has been on a historic run and is now swiftly approaching the monumental Rs 550 crore mark in domestic collections.

Box Office Domination and Record-Breaking Pace

'Dhurandhar' has demonstrated phenomenal staying power, completely unfazed by competition from big-ticket Hollywood releases like 'Avatar: Fire and Ash'. The Ranveer Singh-starrer has now cemented its place as the second fastest Indian film ever to cross the ₹500 crore mark within India, achieving this staggering feat in merely 16 days. It sits only behind 'Pushpa 2', which did it in 11 days. In the Hindi film arena, 'Dhurandhar' has set a new benchmark, surpassing the record held by 'Jawan', which took 18 days to enter the ₹500 crore club.

The 'Shararat' Behind-The-Scenes Revelation

While the film's gripping narrative and powerful performances are being widely praised, its music, particularly the dance number 'Shararat', has taken the internet by storm. Featuring Ayesha Khan and Krystle D'Souza and choreographed by Vijay Ganguly, the song became a viral sensation, even catching the attention of international pop star Nick Jonas, who was seen grooving to it with the Jonas Brothers.

However, in a recent interview with Filmygyan, choreographer Vijay Ganguly revealed a fascinating casting secret. He disclosed that in his initial vision, Tamannaah Bhatia was the first choice for the spectacular dance sequence. "In my head, she was (the one). I had suggested her," Ganguly stated.

He explained that director Aditya Dhar had a very clear and different perspective. Dhar was adamant about not having what is conventionally termed an 'item song'—a number that feels detached from the main storyline. "Aditya was very clear that he did not want what people call an item song, something that went out of the story. If it were just about one girl, it would have taken attention away from the story," Ganguly elaborated.

Why Two Dancers Instead of One?

This directorial vision is precisely why the final song features two performers instead of a single dazzling star. Ganguly further clarified the thought process, saying, "That's why there are two girls, not one. He didn't want the attention to be about this one person. If it were Tamannaah, it would've been about her and not the story."

Emphasizing narrative integrity, he added, "Jo ho raha tha film mein, there was a lot going on, and if you go away from the story, then the song is just a cut-to song." This decision underscores the film's focus on ensuring every element serves the plot, a factor that audiences seem to have appreciated immensely.

The film, which also stars Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, continues its dream run. With the second part already slated for release in March 2026, the 'Dhurandhar' phenomenon is far from over. The combination of box office glory and thoughtful filmmaking choices has undoubtedly made it one of the most talked-about cinematic successes of the year.
