Veteran Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman has issued a passionate appeal to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, urging immediate action to combat the ongoing ecological destruction in the coastal state. This call to action was sparked by a deeply moving personal experience: witnessing the mass hatching of Olive Ridley turtles on one of Goa's picturesque beaches.
A Miraculous Natural Event Inspires Environmental Advocacy
Sharing her profound encounter on social media, Zeenat Aman described the scene with vivid emotion. "The sand was cooling underfoot, and a little huddle of people had gathered to observe one of Nature's quiet miracles - the mass hatching of olive Ridley turtles," she wrote. She explained that weeks prior, hundreds of female turtles had laboriously emerged from the sea to dig nests and lay their eggs. Under the rising moon, those eggs finally hatched, with assistance from the dedicated members of the Goa Forest Department.
Driven by primordial instinct, the baby turtles are wired to walk into the sea, and with gentle help from their human doulas, they began their perilous journey. Aman noted a sobering statistic: "I'm told no more than 1 in 1000 of these little ones will survive to adulthood." She highlighted the daunting challenges these survivors face, including navigating trawlers, pollution, beach erosion, and collapsing ecosystems. "Little babies.
