YRF Dismisses Rumors of Mardaani 3 Promotions Fueling Delhi Missing Girls Panic
Amidst the release and promotional activities for Rani Mukerji's latest film Mardaani 3, reports surfaced claiming that over 800 individuals had gone missing in Delhi within just 15 days, sparking widespread public alarm. These figures, which circulated heavily on social media and were amplified by influencers, coincided with the film's focus on child trafficking, leading to speculation about a potential connection.
Delhi Police Flags 'Paid Promotions' Amid Escalating Concerns
The situation escalated to a point where Delhi Police intervened, acknowledging the accuracy of the missing persons data but raising serious concerns about how the issue was being portrayed online. In a strongly worded statement, authorities alleged that the narrative was being pushed through 'paid promotions' for monetary gains, indirectly fueling rumors that this might be linked to Mardaani 3's marketing campaign.
Police clarified that while the numbers are based on official records, they align with historical averages and do not represent an abnormal spike. They warned that creating panic for financial benefits would not be tolerated, promising strict action against those involved.
Yash Raj Films Issues Firm Denial and Statement
In response to the growing chatter and allegations, Yash Raj Films (YRF) released a statement to address the controversy. A spokesperson for the production house stated, "Yash Raj Films is a 50-year-old company founded on the core principles of being highly ethical and transparent. We strongly deny the accusations floating on social media that Mardaani 3’s promotional campaign has deliberately sensationalized a sensitive issue like this. We have immense trust in our authorities that they will share all facts and truths in due course of time."
This denial comes as YRF emphasizes its longstanding reputation and commitment to integrity, distancing itself from any attempts to exploit real-world issues for promotional purposes.
Origins of the '800 Missing People' Claims and Online Speculation
The controversy began when a PTI report highlighted that over 800 people had gone missing in Delhi during the first half of January 2026. This data, picked up by multiple media outlets, reignited fears about women's safety and led to intense online discussions.
Prior to this, social media had been flooded with unverified claims about missing girls in Mumbai, which were later dismissed as fake by Mumbai Police. The Delhi data, however, being based on official records, gained more traction and was shared extensively across platforms.
Why Mardaani 3 Was Dragged into the Controversy
Following the police statement, several content creators and influencers suggested a link between the alleged paid promotions and Mardaani 3, given the film's plot involving the kidnapping of young girls for scientific experimentation. Comments such as "Look at the coincidence—Mardaani 3 is based on mass disappearances of girls, and at the same time, news of 800 girls going missing surfaces" fueled online speculation, with some labeling it as "cheap publicity."
Despite these claims, YRF's categorical denial has left the matter under scrutiny as authorities continue to investigate the source behind the paid amplification of the issue. The film, released on January 30, continues to be at the center of this unfolding debate, highlighting the delicate balance between entertainment and real-world sensitivities.
