Nidhi Dutta Explains Tabu's Absence in Border 2
Nidhi Dutta, the producer of the upcoming film Border 2, recently addressed why actress Tabu does not appear in the sequel. As the daughter of filmmaker JP Dutta, she shared clear reasons in an interview with IANS.
The producer stated that Tabu was not cast because the story features different characters. Border 2 returns to the 1971 war setting but focuses on a new battle between India and Pakistan. This change means fresh roles for the cast.
New Characters Drive the Sequel
Nidhi Dutta explained the character shifts in detail. She said, "Sunny Deol is not playing Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri in the film. You must have understood from all the assets from the film that Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, who he played in the first film, is a different character. So obviously, the wife will also be different."
This clarification highlights that the sequel introduces new war heroes and their stories. With Sunny Deol taking on a different role, Tabu's character from the original film naturally does not fit into the new narrative.
How Border 2 Came to Life: General Bipin Rawat's Influence
Nidhi Dutta also revealed the inspiring backstory behind Border 2. She shared that the late Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, played a crucial role in its creation.
A few years ago, General Rawat called Nidhi and her father to Delhi for a meeting. During this discussion, he entrusted them with the responsibility of telling war hero stories. The late army officer presented 22 accounts of brave soldiers, aiming to share these tales with the public.
Honoring the General's Vision
Nidhi Dutta described this moment as significant. She recalled, "And he had said that these are some stories of our martyrs, of our soldiers, which have to be conveyed to the people. And he had entrusted that responsibility to me and my father."
Tragically, General Rawat died in a helicopter crash, which Nidhi called an "unfortunate" incident. She emphasized that Border 2 is not just her and JP Dutta's dream but also "the dream of the late General Bipin Rawat ji."
About one and a half years after his passing, Nidhi began working on three to four of these stories. She incorporated them into the script for Border 2, ensuring the film honors real-life heroes.
