Mumbai Police Uncovers VPN Usage in Ranveer Singh Extortion Threat
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh recently faced a serious extortion threat through a voice note sent on the social media platform WhatsApp. In response, the Mumbai Police immediately heightened his security measures. Now, authorities have provided new details in the ongoing investigation, revealing the sophisticated methods employed by the perpetrator.
VPN Used to Send Threatening Voice Note
According to an IANS report, a Mumbai police officer confirmed that the threatening voice note was transmitted using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). This technology masks the user's identity and location, complicating efforts to trace the sender. The police have withheld the identity of the accused but have launched an extensive search operation to track down the individual and their whereabouts. In the voice note, the person demanded a substantial sum of crores of rupees, prompting a thorough investigation into the matter.
Enhanced Security for Ranveer Singh
Following the threats, the Mumbai Police deployed six security personnel at Singh's residence in the Beau Monde society, located in Worli, Mumbai. This move aims to ensure the actor's safety and prevent any potential harm.
Similar Threat to Aayush Sharma
In a related development, actor Aayush Sharma, who is Salman Khan's brother-in-law, also received a threatening email. Reports indicate that the email was sent via a Proton email service, known for its encryption features. The sender claimed affiliation with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, adding to the gravity of the situation. Mumbai Crime Branch officials have commented on the use of Proton email in this case, highlighting the challenges in investigating such digital threats.
Recent Incidents of Violence in Mumbai
This extortion threat follows another alarming incident earlier this year, where gunshots were fired outside the house of director Rohit Shetty. The Mumbai Crime Branch's investigation revealed that the vehicle used by the culprits was sourced from Pune. The bike's owner had sold it to Aditya Gayki, one of the accused in the case. Meanwhile, the main culprit, Shubham Lonkar, who allegedly ordered the firing to spread terror in Mumbai, remains absconding. He had transferred Rs 40,000 to the arrested accused to carry out the act.
Ranveer Singh's Current Projects
Amid these security concerns, Ranveer Singh is also in the news for his professional endeavors. He recently exited the project 'Don 3', leading to a tussle with the makers. Additionally, he is eagerly awaiting the release of the highly anticipated film 'Dhurandhar 2', which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 19, 2026.
These incidents underscore the growing challenges faced by celebrities in maintaining their safety and privacy in the digital age, with law enforcement agencies working diligently to address such threats.
