The release of Sriram Raghavan's war biopic 'Ikkis' on January 1st has sparked not just audience reactions but also a touching tribute from within the film's cast. Vivaan Shah, son of veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak, shared an emotional and deeply appreciative note for his co-star, Agastya Nanda, who is Amitabh Bachchan's grandson.
An Instagram Ode to a Co-Star
Taking to Instagram, Vivaan Shah posted a glowing message for Agastya, whom he described as one of the kindest and most brilliant people he has met. He affectionately called him a "blessing" and expressed his love for the young actor. Vivaan drew a personal parallel, recalling that he was the same age as Agastya when he worked with Abhishek Bachchan, but admitted he was not half as evolved or mature.
In his note, Vivaan highlighted Agastya's sophistication as an actor despite his youth. "At 23 going on 24 (now 25) he is a fully formed individual and an extraordinarily sophisticated actor," he wrote, adding that with just two films, Agastya has delivered one of the greatest performances he has ever witnessed.
Praise for the Portrayal of a War Hero
Vivaan Shah reserved special praise for Agastya Nanda's lead role as Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, a hero of the 1971 India-Pakistan War. He called the portrayal "magnificent beyond words" and noted its poignant, powerful, and intense nature, which also captured the vitality and innocence of youth.
He specifically mentioned moments like when Agastya's character shouts "Fire!" or "Let's go boys!" giving him goosebumps, reminiscent of the impact created by his 'Nana' (grandfather) Amitabh Bachchan in classic film scenes.
A Mother's Grateful Response
The heartfelt tribute did not go unnoticed by Agastya's family. His mother, Shweta Bachchan, was moved to tears upon reading Vivaan's post. She responded in the comments, expressing her hope that her son lives up to the faith Vivaan has shown in him.
"Thank you for holding his hand through it all encouraging teaching and I’m sure at times tolerating his pranks," Shweta wrote, conveying her deep gratitude for Vivaan's support and mentorship during the filmmaking process.
The film 'Ikkis', which derives its title from the age at which Arun Khetarpal was martyred, focuses on the Battle of Basantar. Alongside Agastya Nanda and Vivaan Shah, the cast includes Simar Bhatia, Dharmendra, and Jaideep Ahlawat.
