Vinod Khanna's Wife Unveils Actor's Lung Cancer Battle and Spiritual Recovery
In a revealing new account, Kavita Khanna, the wife of legendary Bollywood actor and politician Vinod Khanna, has disclosed that her husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2001, a fact previously unknown to the public. While Vinod Khanna ultimately passed away from bladder cancer in April 2017, his earlier battle with lung cancer highlights a remarkable journey of recovery through alternative spiritual practices.
Diagnosis and Initial Shock
Kavita Khanna shared these intimate details in the inaugural video of her new YouTube channel. She recalled that in 2001, during Vinod Khanna's annual medical checkup, doctors discovered patches in his lungs, leading to a lung cancer diagnosis. At the time, Vinod was a heavy smoker, consuming between 40 to 80 cigarettes daily. The couple consulted leading MRI specialists in Mumbai, who confirmed the grim news and recommended surgery to remove half of his lung, assuring them that life would continue normally post-operation.
"We went to the leading MRI specialists of Mumbai, and they all said it was lung cancer," Kavita stated, emphasizing the severity of the situation. The couple chose to keep this diagnosis private, confiding only in spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar before proceeding with any medical interventions.
Spiritual Intervention and Recovery
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, affectionately referred to as "Gurudev" by the Khannas, advised them to consult the head of oncology at AIIMS Delhi to explore delaying surgery by a month or two. With approval from the medical expert, Gurudev directed Vinod to visit an ashram in Rishikesh and practice Sudarshan Kriya, a specific breathwork technique, three times daily.
This spiritual regimen led to a surprising turn of events. During a trip to Germany, Vinod experienced severe shoulder pain, prompting an X-ray that revealed no broken ribs but, more importantly, no signs of cancer. "Unbelievable! We came back via London, they saw all the reports, and couldn't accept there's been a complete cure," Kavita recounted, noting that international doctors were skeptical, attributing the results to possible mix-ups in Indian medical reports.
Subsequent Bladder Cancer and Final Days
Despite overcoming lung cancer, Vinod Khanna faced another health crisis in 2010 when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Medical prognosis offered only a 25% chance of survival after two years with allopathic treatment. Vinod, expressing acceptance of his fate, told Gurudev, "I've lived a full life. And if my time to go has come, I'm ready to go. But I don't want to torture my body."
Following Gurudev's advice, Vinod underwent Panchkarma, a detoxification therapy, at the ashram. Within two years, scans conducted in America showed the cancer had disappeared. However, Gurudev cautioned Vinod to quit alcohol, as he typically consumed one or two glasses each evening. A year later, despite being in good health, Vinod's condition began to decline, and he ultimately succumbed to bladder cancer in 2017.
Legacy and Spiritual Influence
Kavita's account sheds light on the significant role Sri Sri Ravi Shankar played in Vinod Khanna's life, particularly during his health struggles. While Vinod is widely known for his spiritual devotion to Osho, this revelation underscores Gurudev's pivotal influence in his final years, offering a deeper understanding of the actor's private battles and resilience.
This story not only highlights Vinod Khanna's personal health journey but also emphasizes the potential of integrative approaches combining modern medicine with spiritual practices for holistic well-being.
