Vikrant Massey Denies Ramayana Casting, Clarifies He Was Never Part of Nitesh Tiwari's Epic
Vikrant Massey Denies Ramayana Casting Rumors

Vikrant Massey Sets Record Straight on Ramayana Casting Rumors

In a definitive statement, actor Vikrant Massey has categorically denied any involvement in director Nitesh Tiwari's highly anticipated mythological epic, Ramayana. This clarification comes in response to widespread media reports that suggested Massey had been replaced by fellow actor Raghav Juyal in the ambitious two-part film project.

Addressing the Speculation Directly

Taking to his Instagram Stories, Vikrant Massey penned a clear message to dispel the rumors. He wrote, "Ok. To put the rumours to rest. I never was a part of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan. The many media portals reporting about my supposed ‘replacement’ should’ve done the requisite background check. Disappointing. Nonetheless, wishing everyone a part of the movie all the very best. Love."

This direct communication from the actor himself aims to quash the narrative that he was ever considered for a role in the film, let alone replaced. The speculation appears to have originated from a Variety report that detailed Raghav Juyal's casting as Meghanad, also known as Indrajit, the eldest son of the demon king Ravana, in Ramayana: Part 2.

The Source of the Casting Confusion

According to the initial report, Raghav Juyal is set to appear in the second installment of the saga, which is slated for a Diwali 2027 release. The report further claimed that Vikrant Massey was initially considered for the role of Meghanad, but the casting did not materialize. Subsequently, the makers approached Raghav Juyal, who agreed to come on board. Juyal is expected to begin filming after he recovers from a recent injury.

However, Massey's statement firmly contradicts this narrative, indicating that no such casting consideration ever took place from his end.

The Staggering Scale of Ramayana

Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana is being touted as the most expensive Indian film ever mounted. Producer Namit Malhotra has previously revealed that the two-part saga will cost nearly Rs 4,000 crore by the time both films are completed. Speaking in an interview, Malhotra explained, "When we set out to make it six or seven years ago, people thought I was a lunatic. No Indian film comes close to this scale. Put simply, it’ll be about $500 million for both films combined."

He added that despite the staggering budget, the team remains financially disciplined. "We’re making the largest film in the world for the greatest story, the greatest epic the world should see. And I still believe we’re doing it responsibly. We’re making a bigger film at a lower cost compared to some of the biggest Hollywood productions," Malhotra stated.

An Ensemble Cast of Stars

The film boasts an extensive and star-studded ensemble cast:

  • Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram
  • Yash as Ravana
  • Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita
  • Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman
  • Ravi Dubey as Lakshman

The supporting cast includes notable names such as Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Vivek Oberoi as Vibishana, Arun Govil as King Dashrath, Indira Krishnan as Queen Kaushalya, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, and Adinath Kothare as Bharat, among others.

Production and Release Timeline

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the live-action epic is currently in production. The first installment is slated for release during the Diwali weekend of this year, with the second part expected to arrive in cinemas in Diwali 2027.

This clarification from Vikrant Massey not only puts an end to the specific rumors about his involvement but also highlights the intense public and media scrutiny surrounding one of Indian cinema's most ambitious projects to date.
