Vijay Varma Sets Sights on Directing a Pure Horror Drama in Rajasthan

Acclaimed actor Vijay Varma, who is currently basking in the success of 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack' and eagerly anticipating the release of 'Matka King', has unveiled an ambitious new career goal: stepping into the director's chair. In a candid and exclusive conversation with Variety India, the versatile star shared his detailed vision for a pure horror drama set against the mystical and enchanting backdrop of Rajasthan.

Vijay Varma's Vision for a Horror Film

During the interview, Vijay Varma expressed his deep desire to direct a movie, and when probed further, he humorously yet firmly specified the genre: full horror. He elaborated, "I would love to do a horror set in Rajasthan. Very 'jaadu-tona' kind of a horror. Very psychological, [but] at the same time, straight-up horror, not like laced up with comedy. A horror drama." This statement highlights his commitment to creating a genuine and intense horror experience, distinct from the popular horror-comedy trend in Bollywood.

Vijay Varma's Past Experience with Horror

Vijay Varma is no stranger to the horror genre, having previously showcased his talent in the 'Ghost Stories' anthology, where he starred in Zoya Akhtar's segment. While Bollywood has recently embraced horror comedies, his proposed pure horror drama represents a refreshing and innovative departure, offering audiences something new and compelling. For his upcoming projects, he also aims to explore comedy, a genre he believes is underrepresented in its pure form.
