Actor Urmila Sanawar handed over her mobile phone to the court of judicial magistrate Rohit Joshi in Haridwar on Friday. She also provided voice samples for forensic examination in connection with the Rishikesh resort murder case.
Police Escort and Court Appearance
Sanawar arrived at the court complex under police escort. She was accompanied by swami Darshan Bharti during her appearance. Officials confirmed the collection of her voice sample as part of the ongoing investigation.
Political Traction and VIP Allegations
The case gained significant political attention last month after alleged audio and video clips circulated online. In these recordings, expelled former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore reportedly mentions a "VIP". Sanawar claims Rathore was her husband.
Rathore allegedly identified this VIP as BJP national general secretary Dushyant Gautam. Gautam has firmly denied these allegations. He has filed defamation cases against both Sanawar and Rathore in response.
SIT Investigation and CBI Recommendation
A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the VIP angle in this murder case. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the matter.
SP City Abhay Singh leads the SIT. He stated that Sanawar's voice samples and electronic devices will be sent to the forensic laboratory soon. The SIT also issued notices to Suresh Rathore for voice sampling.
Rathore's Response and Sanawar's Statement
Rathore did not appear for voice sampling, citing health reasons. He has requested another date to present himself before the court.
After submitting her phone, Urmila Sanawar spoke to mediapersons in Haridwar. She expressed support for the CBI probe. Sanawar said she hopes the alleged VIP's identity will be revealed through this investigation.
She emphasized the need for justice to be delivered to the victim in this high-profile case.
