Udit Narayan's First Wife Files Police Complaint Over Alleged Abuse and Neglect
In a shocking revelation, Ranjana, the first wife of renowned Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan, has lodged a formal police complaint against him, accusing him of severe mistreatment and abandonment. The allegations include claims that Narayan orchestrated the removal of her uterus under false pretenses and has consistently failed to provide financial support as promised.
Allegations of Medical Deception and Abandonment
According to the complaint filed at a Women's Police Station in Bihar, Ranjana married Udit Narayan on December 7, 1984. Shortly after, Narayan moved to Mumbai to pursue his music career and never returned to her. She later discovered that he had married another woman, Deepa, in Mumbai, with whom he has a son, singer Aditya Narayan. Ranjana alleges that Narayan repeatedly gaslighted her whenever she confronted him about the situation.
The most severe accusation centers on an incident in 1996. Ranjana claims that Udit Narayan, along with his brothers Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha, took her to a private hospital in Delhi under the guise of medical treatment. There, she alleges, her uterus was removed without her consent or knowledge. Deepa Narayan was reportedly present at the hospital during this time. Ranjana only became aware of the procedure much later during subsequent medical consultations.
Pattern of Abuse and Neglect
Ranjana's troubles did not end with the alleged medical procedure. She further states that in 2006, when she visited Udit and Deepa in Mumbai, she was abused and barred from entering their home. Additionally, she claims to have been insulted and driven away by her in-laws at their residence in Nepal. Since these incidents, she has been living at her paternal home in Sapaul, Bihar.
Despite previous legal actions, including approaching the Family Court in Sapaul and the Women's Commission, where Udit Narayan admitted to being legally married to Ranjana and promised to pay maintenance, he has allegedly failed to fulfill this commitment. This failure, coupled with the discovery of her uterus removal, prompted her to file the recent police complaint.
Demand for Justice and Respect
In an emotional statement to Bihar Tak, Ranjana expressed her desperation for justice. "I was forced to come to the Women's Police Station. Because as you know, Udit commits to me time and again, but hasn't fulfilled those commitments yet. I have full faith in the Women's Police Station. I'm a woman, so I should get justice," she said. She added that her health has been deteriorating, and she urgently needs his support, which he has not provided.
Ranjana emphasized her need for respect as a wife, stating, "I demand the respect that should be given to a wife. He's accepted also that I'm his first wife, but doesn't fulfill the commitments of a husband. What else does a wife need but respect?" Her lawyer supported these claims, alleging that Narayan has caused significant harm to her life through deception and neglect.
Broader Context and Impact
This controversy adds to a series of public issues for Udit Narayan, who recently faced backlash for kissing female audience members at a concert. The case highlights ongoing concerns about spousal rights and medical ethics in India. Ranjana's pursuit of justice through legal channels underscores the challenges faced by women in similar situations, seeking accountability and support from high-profile individuals.
The police complaint is currently under investigation, and further developments are awaited as Ranjana continues her fight for maintenance and respect.
