'The Raja Saab' leaked online, US restaurant plays pirated copy

The release of Prabhas' much-anticipated horror-comedy, 'The Raja Saab', has been marred by a significant online piracy incident. The film, which hit theaters on January 9, 2026, was reportedly leaked online shortly after its debut, despite performing well at the box office. In a swift response, the Hyderabad cyber police have initiated a crackdown, making several arrests.

US Restaurant Accused of Screening Pirated Copy

Adding an international dimension to the piracy scandal, a restaurant in Ohio, United States, allegedly played the pirated version of the film. According to a report by Hindustan Times, an Instagram account catering to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) shared a video showing the movie playing on a TV within the restaurant. The video, which has since been deleted, was captioned with a phrase suggesting excessive boldness, accompanied by folded hands emojis.

This incident stands in stark contrast to the film's official commercial success in the region. The US distributor recently announced that 'The Raja Saab' crossed the $2 million mark in North America within just two days of its release.

Hyderabad Police Crack Down on Piracy Websites

Confirming the online leak, the Hyderabad police have taken active measures to combat the piracy of the Prabhas-starrer. Authorities have confirmed that the film was illegally uploaded and distributed on various piracy websites. As part of their investigation, the cyber crime unit has already made a few arrests in connection with the case, highlighting the serious legal consequences of digital piracy.

All About 'The Raja Saab' and Its Sequel

Directed by Maruthi, 'The Raja Saab' boasts an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Boman Irani, among others. The film is a high-budget venture, reportedly made with a budget ranging between Rs 250 to 300 crore. Leading star Prabhas is said to have charged a whopping Rs 100 crore for his role.

Despite the piracy setback, the film's makers have shown confidence in the franchise by announcing a sequel. Titled 'Raja Saab 2: Circus 1935', the follow-up was revealed to audiences at the very end of the first film, promising more of the horror-comedy universe.
