Taapsee Pannu Hails Anubhav Sinha's Directorial Brilliance as 'Assi' Nears Release
Following their acclaimed collaborations in socially conscious films like Mulk and Thappad, actress Taapsee Pannu is preparing for her third cinematic venture with director Anubhav Sinha, titled 'Assi - an urgent watch'. In a recent interview, the actress opened up about her profound experience working with the filmmaker, emphasizing the unique qualities he brings to his projects.
Beyond Courtroom Dramas: A Director of Realistic Impact
Taapsee Pannu expressed that she does not want to confine Anubhav Sinha solely to the genre of courtroom dramas. "I don't want to bracket Anubhav Sir only with respect to courtroom dramas," she stated. "I think there are a lot of things he brings to the table that make his films feel dramatically real, almost too close to home." She highlighted that whether it is legal narratives like Mulk or the upcoming Assi, or impactful stories such as Thappad or Article 15, his storytelling has a distinctive ability to present facts with such effortless clarity that it often holds up a mirror to society, making it challenging yet essential viewing.
Effortless Presentation of Harsh Realities
The actress elaborated on how Anubhav Sinha masterfully depicts the realities of life. "He makes you see reality in such an effortless manner that you simply cannot ignore them once they're in front of you, and that's what makes his films extremely impactful," Taapsee explained. She believes that when a director possesses the skill to transform even the simplest stories into powerful cinematic experiences, actors find themselves in a secure and supportive environment. "When you have a director who has the power to present even the simplest stories in the most powerful way, I think actors are probably the safest in those films," she noted, adding that this security often leads to strong performances across the board.
A Safe Haven for Actors: Material That Demands Commitment
Taapsee further praised the quality of material provided by Anubhav Sinha, describing it as a treasure trove for dedicated performers. "The material Anubhav gives, the kind of scenes and moments he allows to create, there's very little room for an actor who is truly invested to go wrong," she asserted. "If you're genuinely committed, the moments he asks you to create and the dialogues he gives you are like a kid in a candy shop." This, she believes, ensures that actors in his films consistently deliver compelling performances, leaving little room for criticism.
