Comedian Sunil Pal Testifies in Meerut Court Over Alleged Kidnapping Incident
Mumbai-based comedian Sunil Pal appeared before a court in Meerut on Monday to formally record his statement concerning his alleged kidnapping case from December 2024. The court proceedings marked a significant development in the investigation that has drawn attention across the entertainment and legal spheres.
Pal Maintains Incident Was Genuine, Reports Ongoing Threats
Speaking to reporters after providing his testimony, Sunil Pal categorically stated that the kidnapping was a real event and not fabricated in any manner. He revealed disturbing details about continuing threats aimed at pressuring him to withdraw his official complaint.
"I am receiving threatening phone calls demanding that I declare the entire incident was staged," Pal disclosed. "The police have identified ten accused individuals in this case, but only two have been arrested so far. Perhaps those who remain at large are the ones threatening me."
Police Confirm Ongoing Investigation
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active, with dedicated efforts underway to trace and apprehend the remaining suspects. The case was originally filed in Mumbai but was subsequently transferred to Meerut jurisdiction after an FIR was registered in that city.
According to Pal's allegations, he was lured to Meerut under the false pretense of a comedy performance. Once there, he claims he was abducted, blindfolded, and held hostage for nearly twenty-four hours during December 2024. During this captivity, he reported being threatened with a "poison-filled injection" and coerced into transferring ₹7.5 lakh as ransom payment.
Financial Trail and Previous Association with Meerut
Investigators later discovered that a portion of the ransom money was used to purchase gold from local jewelry shops in the area, creating a financial trail that authorities are following.
Reflecting on his long-standing connection with the city, Pal expressed both disappointment and faith in the local justice system. "I have been visiting Meerut for approximately twenty-five years, but this marks the first time such a traumatic incident has occurred to me here," he stated. "Nevertheless, I maintain complete confidence in the Meerut police force to uncover the full truth behind this matter."
Pattern of Similar Incidents Involving Entertainment Figures
This case appears to follow a disturbing pattern of criminal activity targeting entertainment industry personalities. Notably, actor Mushtaq Khan was reportedly kidnapped using a similar method on November 20th, when he was invited to an event in Delhi before being taken to Bijnor.
Furthermore, the same criminal gang allegedly attempted to target veteran actor Shakti Kapoor using an identical modus operandi, suggesting an organized pattern of kidnapping attempts against public figures in the entertainment sector.
The developments in Sunil Pal's case highlight ongoing security concerns for performers and public figures, while demonstrating the challenges law enforcement faces in investigating complex criminal networks operating across multiple jurisdictions.
