A Sudden Collapse and Final Days

Ahn Sung Ki passed away in the early hours of January 4. He had been receiving critical care at the Soon Chun Hyang University Seoul Hospital. His health crisis began on December 30, when the actor suddenly choked on his food and collapsed. He was rushed to the emergency room and immediately admitted to the intensive care unit, where he remained for five days before succumbing.

According to reports from the Korea JoongAng Daily, the immediate cause was a cardiac arrest. The funeral proceedings for the beloved actor are scheduled to be held at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, located in the Seocho District of southern Seoul.

A Legendary Career That Began in Childhood

Ahn Sung Ki's journey in entertainment is nothing short of remarkable. Born on January 1, 1952, he first stepped in front of the camera as a child artist in 1957, inspired by his filmmaker father from Daegu. His debut film was 'The Twilight Train'.

By the time he was a teenager, he had already appeared in over 70 films. Seeking a normal life, he took a break from acting to complete his education at Hankuk University and even worked a corporate job. However, his passion for the craft called him back, and he returned to build one of the most respected careers in South Korean cinema.

Behind the scenes, Ahn Sung Ki was fighting a personal health battle. In 2022, he publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019. After a year of treatment, he was declared cancer-free in 2020.

Tragically, the cancer returned later. Despite undergoing treatment again, the stalwart actor showed immense dedication by continuing to work. His final project was the 2022 film 'Birth'. He was also cast in the upcoming feature 'Spring in Seoul', though details about his involvement remain limited following his passing.
