Sonu Sood Extends Humanitarian Aid to Stranded Travelers in Dubai Amid Regional Tensions
In a heartfelt response to the escalating West Asia conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has shared a message of hope while announcing critical humanitarian support for travelers stranded in Dubai. The crisis has led to widespread flight disruptions following temporary airspace closures across parts of the region, leaving thousands of passengers in uncertainty.
Actor's Optimistic Message and Concrete Assistance
Speaking about the volatile situation, Sood expressed optimism for peace, stating, "I hope everything will be fine and I wish happiness for everyone." On Thursday, the actor took to social media to announce free accommodation for people left without shelter in Dubai as flights remain severely disrupted.
In an Instagram post shared via news agency ANI, Sood declared, "War has left many travelers stranded in Dubai. If you or someone you know has nowhere to stay, we are offering safe accommodation free of cost. No nationality. No conditions. Just humanity. DM us if you need help." This initiative comes as limited rescue and repatriation flights have been operating since early March to assist stranded travelers, with several Indian airports now receiving returning passengers.
Indian Airports Welcome Returning Passengers
The situation has prompted coordinated efforts at multiple Indian airports. On Thursday, travelers arriving from Dubai landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Earlier this week, special flights also arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and Chennai International Airport, among other locations.
Passengers who have returned to India described the situation as tense but manageable due to local support systems. The flight disruptions have particularly affected members of the Indian film industry who were in the United Arab Emirates when the crisis escalated.
Bollywood Personalities Share Harrowing Experiences
Actor Vishnu Manchu shared a video from his Dubai residence showing missiles being intercepted in the night sky. He revealed that the loud interceptions "shook our home" and frightened his young daughter.
Actress Sonal Chauhan, stranded at Dubai airport, appealed for assistance through social media, tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government while seeking help to return home safely.
Actor Esha Gupta confirmed her safe return to India after experiencing tense moments at Abu Dhabi airport. In a social media note, she recalled, "By 1 pm the airport was closed, chaos all around as none of us knew what happened. Then the news started coming of the missile attack and no one knew what the next minute held for us." She described how passengers comforted one another while trying to contact family members, praising UAE authorities for their calm response.
Actress Lara Dutta remains in Dubai with her daughter Saira and has shared emotional updates about the situation. In a video, she recalled hearing loud explosions while at a film studio on February 28 and later seeing missiles intercepted in the sky. She described the experience as "unnerving," adding that the sound of fighter jets and air defence systems caused windows and doors at her residence to rattle. Dutta praised UAE authorities for making residents of different nationalities feel protected while confirming she was seeking available flights back to Mumbai.
Diplomatic Missions Step Up Assistance
Indian diplomatic missions across the Gulf region have intensified their assistance to stranded passengers. The Embassy of India in Kuwait announced on platform X that it remains "fully engaged" in helping Indian nationals affected by the airspace shutdown.
The embassy stated, "Embassy officials are in regular contact with the stranded passengers, and are closely liaising with Kuwaiti authorities, managements of the respective hotels and airlines." Authorities and airlines continue to monitor the evolving situation in the Gulf region, with safety assessments guiding the gradual resumption of flight operations.
Gradual Return to Normalcy
With flights slowly resuming, normalcy is gradually returning to the UAE. For thousands of Indians hoping to return home, the wait may soon conclude as airport operations stabilize. The collective efforts of humanitarian figures like Sonu Sood, combined with diplomatic support and airline coordination, are providing crucial relief during this challenging period of international conflict and travel disruption.
