Shatrughan Sinha Weighs In on Dhurandhar 2 Controversy
As the blockbuster film Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues its unprecedented box office success, it has simultaneously ignited a heated political debate. Critics and certain political figures have labeled the Ranveer Singh-starrer as propaganda, sparking widespread discussion across media platforms.
Sinha Dismisses Propaganda Allegations
In an exclusive interview with News18, veteran actor and seasoned politician Shatrughan Sinha addressed the growing controversy head-on. While acknowledging he hasn't yet seen the sequel, Sinha firmly rejected the propaganda characterization that has shadowed the film's narrative.
"I haven't seen Dhurandhar 2, but I have seen Dhurandhar 1, and I really liked the film. I even tweeted about it," Sinha stated clearly. "I've read those claims, but I wouldn't call it propaganda. A film is a film — it has entertainment, it has grip."
Praising Director Aditya Dhar as a Role Model
Sinha reserved special praise for the film's director, highlighting Aditya Dhar's emerging influence in contemporary cinema. "I believe Aditya Dhar has emerged as a role model today. Such a fine director, such a well-made film — we haven't seen such engaging cinema in a long time," the veteran actor-politician emphasized.
When prompted to compare Dhurandhar with other major Bollywood successes, Sinha offered nuanced appreciation:
- Dhurandhar: "Dhurandhar, I liked it very much."
- Pathaan: "And Pathaan — Shah Rukh Khan is a national icon. Of course I like his films, but I haven't watched Pathaan."
He reaffirmed his position with conviction: "Dhurandhar was very good. I really liked it."
Withholding Judgment on Dhurandhar 2 Criticism
Regarding specific criticism directed at Dhurandhar 2, Sinha adopted a measured approach, choosing to reserve his opinion until he personally views the film. "I'll say something after I watch it," he declared.
Even when pressed for immediate commentary, Sinha responded in his trademark style: "If you want me to say 'Khamosh,' I won't say it right now. I'll say it after watching the film."
Addressing criticism of the original Dhurandhar, however, Sinha remained unwavering in his support. "No, no — I've already praised Dhurandhar 1. Once I've praised it, that's the end of the matter," he asserted firmly.
Record-Breaking Box Office Performance
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2 continues its spectacular theatrical run, defying controversy with overwhelming audience reception. The star-studded ensemble featuring Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, and Rakesh Bedi has resonated powerfully with viewers nationwide.
As the sequel to the original blockbuster Dhurandhar, the film has achieved remarkable milestones:
- Crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark worldwide within weeks of release
- Become one of the fastest films in history to reach this financial milestone
- Shattered multiple box office records across domestic and international markets
The film's commercial success stands in stark contrast to the political controversy surrounding its narrative, creating a fascinating dichotomy between critical reception and audience enthusiasm.
