Shrek 5 Cast: New Additions as Shrek's Sons Revealed

The beloved swamp-dwelling ogre is returning with his family, and it is getting bigger. DreamWorks Animation has officially announced exciting new additions to the cast of the highly anticipated 'Shrek 5', bringing fresh faces into the iconic franchise.

Meet the New Ogre Kids

According to a report from Variety, Marcello Hernandez, best known for his work on 'Saturday Night Live', and Skyler Gisondo, who played Jimmy Olsen in last summer's 'Superman', are set to join the voice cast. They will be voicing Shrek and Fiona's sons, Fergus and Farkle, respectively. This confirms that the royal ogre family is expanding beyond their previously known daughter.

Hernandez's rising profile includes appearances in 'Happy Gilmore 2' and the upcoming comedy '72 Hours'. Gisondo has built a solid resume with supporting roles in acclaimed films like 'Licorice Pizza' and 'Booksmart'.

Returning Favourites and New Faces

Fans of the original series will be delighted to know that the core vocal cast is returning to reprise their legendary roles. Mike Myers will once again be the grumpy but lovable Shrek, Eddie Murphy returns as the hilarious Donkey, and Cameron Diaz is back as the fierce Princess Fiona.

In another major casting coup, superstar Zendaya is also joining the ogre universe. She will be lending her voice to Shrek and Fiona's daughter, Felicia, completing the picture of the new-generation ogre family.

Release Date and Creative Team

Universal Pictures has scheduled the release of DreamWorks Animation's 'Shrek 5' for June 30, 2027. The film will be directed by franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn.

Vernon, who directed 'Shrek 2' and 'Madagascar 2', also famously voices the Gingerbread Man. Dohrn has been deeply involved with the series, working on the second and third films and serving as head of story on the fourth. He also provided the voice for the villainous Rumpelstiltskin. The film will be produced by Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri, with Brad Ableson serving as co-director.

The Shrek franchise is a global entertainment powerhouse. The four previous films have earned a staggering more than 2.9 billion USD worldwide. Its success has spawned a Broadway musical, a London-based tourist attraction, the 'Puss in Boots' spin-off series, and numerous attractions at Universal Studios parks, cementing its place in pop culture history.
