Amanda Seyfried Applauds Cinema Featuring Powerful Female Leads at Berlin Film Festival
Acclaimed Hollywood actress Amanda Seyfried is receiving widespread praise for her vocal support of films that center on strong female characters. The star, who had a remarkably busy conclusion to 2025, saw two of her major projects—the musical drama 'The Testament of Ann Lee' and the erotic thriller 'The Housemaid'—release within days of each other, as reported by industry publication Variety.
Diverse Projects United by Female Empowerment
Despite the films being vastly different in genre and tone, Seyfried expressed immense pride that they share a crucial common thread: both narratives revolve around resilient and complex women. At a press conference for 'The Testament of Ann Lee' during the Berlin Film Festival, before its Special Gala screening, the actress elaborated on what draws her to specific projects and her experience of starring in both films simultaneously.
While Seyfried was not directly questioned about political issues—a topic that has dominated many discussions at this year's Berlinale—she was asked about the significance of artistic quality in these times when fascism is rising everywhere.
Defining Quality in Storytelling
I think about, what's worth leaving my kids for? And what's going to give me the opportunity as an artist to flex myself and to learn something about myself? Seyfried remarked. This particular project ('Ann Lee') had quality all over it, and what I define as quality is a clear vision, and not necessarily a message but an exploration of someone's life through storytelling in a cinematic atmosphere with a real edge.
The actress further highlighted that Paul Feig's 'The Housemaid', which co-stars Sydney Sweeney and has achieved notable box office success, offered a contrasting yet equally valuable experience. It was also incredibly fun and let me flex myself and my artistic needs, she explained. Not in the same way necessarily, but it was very fruitful for me personally.
Celebrating Strength and Equality
Ultimately, Seyfried emphasized the unifying theme of her recent work. And at the end of the day, I think both, I'm gonna say this, I love the fact that they're both about strength of character, women with needs and who are activated by those needs and by the need for equality and safety in the world. This statement underscores her commitment to roles that not only challenge her as an artist but also contribute to broader cultural conversations about gender representation and empowerment in cinema.
