After a significant break from the silver screen, popular television actress Saumya Tandon is making a powerful return to Bollywood with the upcoming film Dhurandhar. The actress, widely recognized for her role in the hit TV show Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, is eagerly anticipating her big-screen comeback.
Embracing a New and Intense Role
While speaking about her character in the film, Tandon revealed that she is taking on a completely new avatar. "I can't reveal much about my character. It's a small but serious role," she stated. Her decision to join the project was heavily influenced by her desire to work with the acclaimed director Aditya Dhar. She confessed that sometimes actors choose projects specifically for the opportunity to collaborate with certain talented individuals.
The casting director, Mukesh Chhabra, played a pivotal role in convincing her. "It was Mukesh Chhabra who called me and told me that the part is small but I should blindly do it. It's quite an intense part," she shared. Tandon emphasized that audiences will see her in a never-before-seen, intense light, marking a significant departure from her previous comedic and television roles.
The All-Star Cast That Sealed the Deal
What truly drew Saumya Tandon to Dhurandhar was the powerhouse cast. She expressed immense admiration for her co-star, Ranveer Singh, whom she described as "the most powerful actor we have in the industry." She added, "He's special and incredibly talented."
Her enthusiasm didn't stop there. The actress also admitted to being "a little greedy" to share the screen with the versatile Akshaye Khanna, praising his continuous reinvention and captivating performances. For Tandon, the biggest takeaway from this experience is the professional growth that comes from working with the best. "When you work with talented directors and actors, your own work automatically becomes better. You get inspired just by being around people with such skills," she reflected.
A Look Back at an Unplanned Journey
Recalling her Bollywood debut in the 2007 classic Jab We Met, Tandon remarked that it feels like a lifetime ago. She had initially met director Imtiaz Ali for a different project, but he ended up offering her a small role in what would become a cult romantic comedy. "I planned to hide behind this small character and learn the ropes. I did it simply because I loved Imtiaz and the way he narrated the story," she reminisced.
Her career took an unexpected turn after Jab We Met. She became busy with television hosting, and then the massive success of Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai happened. Tandon described herself as an "outsider" who never meticulously planned her career path. "I never planned my career; I was an outsider and simply picked up things that came my way. Even then, I remained choosy, but I worked with what was available to me at the time," she concluded, highlighting her organic and opportunistic journey in the entertainment industry.
